Privacy Policy
MatrixSMS ("we", "us") is a text-messaging service operated by Matrix Anchor. This policy explains what information the service handles and how it is protected. It covers both the people who use MatrixSMS to send and receive texts ("users") and the people who exchange text messages with them ("message contacts").
Information we handle
- Account information — a user's name, email address, optional username, and a salted hash of their password (we never store the password itself).
- Messaging data — the content of text and multimedia messages, the phone numbers involved, timestamps and delivery status, for messages sent or received through numbers connected to the service.
- Contacts — names, phone numbers and any optional details (company, email, notes) that a user chooses to save.
- Twilio credentials — the Twilio Account SID and Auth Token a user connects. The token is stored encrypted and is never shown again after it is saved.
- Device and notification data — if a user turns on notifications, the push-notification address supplied by their browser or device, and basic sign-in session details (such as browser type and IP address) used to keep accounts secure.
How we use it
We use this information only to operate the service: to deliver and display messages, show contact names, send notifications a user has asked for, authenticate users and protect accounts from abuse. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use message content for advertising.
Service providers
Text messages are carried by Twilio, which processes messages and phone numbers under its own privacy policy. Push notifications are delivered through the push services run by browser and device makers (for example Apple, Google or Mozilla). We share information with these providers only as needed to deliver messages and notifications, or where required by law.
Mobile numbers and SMS consent
Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in data collected by a user of MatrixSMS are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See our SMS Policy for how opt-in, opt-out (STOP) and help (HELP) work.
Security
The service is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored as one-way hashes, Twilio credentials are encrypted at rest, sign-in attempts are rate-limited, and each user can see only the numbers and conversations an administrator has assigned to them. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Retention and deletion
Messages and contacts are kept until a user deletes them or an administrator removes the account or number. A user may delete a conversation or a contact at any time within the app. To request deletion of your information, or to ask what we hold about you, contact us using the details below.
Cookies and local storage
MatrixSMS uses a single strictly necessary sign-in cookie to keep a user signed in on their device, and a small local cache of the app's interface files so it can open quickly. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
Children
MatrixSMS is a business tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date above. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
